HOSPITAL PLAY STRUCTURES
Lead Designer – Production Manager – Installation Coordinator
DESIGN PROCESS
St. Luke’s Hospital wanted to create a series of low stimulus play structures for their new children’s clinic. They had 2 colors picked out for every floor on the building. Given the colors I developed an animal companion and theme to each floor (which you will see clearly on the elevator areas).
The idea for the play structures was to create a space that kids could hang out in, and not a jungle gym for them to swing on. I started with a series of concepts that related to the floors’ themes and then developed them into refined computer models.
FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION
There was three major factors I was trying to work within while creating these projects. Safety, indestructibility and all of the pieces had to fit up the elevator.
It was a bit of challenge but ended up being a fun unique project. The play structures break up the wide hallway space and provide a sheltering area for kids to hang out in.
